Also known as Skuld’s Net, the Web of Wyrd is the matrix of fate. Made up of nine straight lines along with the images of all twenty-four runes within it, the Web is believed to be woven by the Norns (Urð - origin, Verðandi - present, Skuld - debt), who in northern European mythology, were the Shapers of Destiny (or the fates).
Considered a metaphor for destiny, the Web of Wyrd symbol is likened to how weaving works. As the fibers are woven together by the Norns at the foot of Yggdrasill (The World Tree), they become the thread of our lives. This thread is regarded as the connection between our past, present and future, and how they are impossible to separate.
The Web of Wyrd represents fate and all its complexities, depicting how our past deeds not only affect the present, but the future as well.
